“The old retirement strategies of putting all of your savings into the stock market while watching it grow, or getting 5% back on a safe bank CD are unfortunately over. Every American needs to take a proactive approach by getting involved now. We have seen a new type of client, one that is more educated and really looks for opportunities to grow their retirement accounts specifically with a self-directed IRA. All earnings grow tax free inside of their retirement account allowing for the opportunity to keep their money while building wealth,” Says Dave Owens, CEO of Midland IRA.
Current retirement statistics are shocking. According to Investopedia, the average American will retire at age 66. By age 50, you should have saved between five and six times your desired income in savings. Thestreet.com says that a typical couple in 2019 ranging between 56-61 years old, without any retirement accounts only has $17,000 in savings. That isn’t very much to retire on. And by age 65, 70% of individuals will need long-term care at some point, which Medicare doesn’t cover assisted living. Over the next decade our retirement crisis will continue to increase unless individuals take control of their retirement.
